Adam Belsom is a A trained organic chemist, specialised in analytical and applied chemistry, with a strong interest in crosslinking mass spectrometry method development. My passion is for combining the latest proteomics technologies with chemical innovation, working at the interface of chemical biology, structural biology and bioanalytics, to produce new methods for peptide technology, protein structure and protein behaviour determination. I have a solid background in combinatorial chemistry, solid-phase synthesis, materials science and analytical platforms, which has focussed heavily on peptide synthesis, characterisation and application. I’m currently working in two (highly-related!) areas: 1. The development of novel peptide-based catalysts and their conjugation, for targeted bioorthogonal catalysis of prodrugs into potent anticancer therapeutics; 2. The development and application of biological and synthetic organic chemistry for the introduction of crosslinking into proteins, followed by their subsequent analysis of by mass spectrometry and bioinformatics approaches (crosslinking MS).
