  Aad Kam Van Der is a I was , as engineering manager and, as manager R&D special projects, responsible for the design and development of many steerable thruster systems. After my early retirement (at 1-12-2014) I am eager to use my knowledge (and a part of my time) to support companies on all thruster and propulsion related issues and offshore developments with my own bisiness "Thrusters Consultancy". I was at Schottel Netherlands the main designer and engineering manager for 16 years, and being a part of a joint venture with Schottel and LIPS, I moved to the LIPS offices in Drunen (1990) to join the LIPS design department. I started the development of a whole new thruster range (LCT types). Later Wärtsilä acquired LIPS, and I became the engineering manager in 2004 of the total Wärtsilä Netherlands propulsion segment and became member of the Management Team. In that time I developed many special thruster applications like the biggest (5.5 MW) retractable thruster ever delivered for companies like Saipem, Heerema and Allseas. I was also the responsible designer for the underwater mountable thruster system. In 2009 I joined the R&D department as engineering manager, and for the last years before my early retirement, I was responsible for special thruster developments like the Inboard Demountable Thrusters project (for FPSO’s) and worked also on the new thruster portfolio.
